READING about the Ice Factor “giving ice hockey tuition” brought a smile to my face, but left me with mixed feelings (The Press, December 14).

Ice hockey, as well as roller hockey, is an excellent sport: fast, exciting and addictive.

As a former member of the York Whitehawks roller hockey club and a big fan of ice hockey too, I have appealed for many years to introduce this sport to York and for the city to have more facilities.

I think that all children should get the opportunity to learn this wonderful sport.

So have my prayers been answered? What the article forgot to mention is that when a child learns the basics provided by the Ice Factor and gets addicted, parents will then need to travel to Sheffield, Hull of Bradford on a weekly basis, because from January the Ice Factor will close and York does not have an ice rink. On the plus side, I wish the Ice Factor all the luck.

Giving children an introduction to this wonderful sport could lead to more support in persuading City of York Council that York is in desperate need of a permanent ice rink.
