I HAVE not noticed any response from Yorkshire Water to my previous letters about the leak in Sim Balk Lane and the issue of water leaks in general. In my last letter, I mentioned a report that the company looses 26 per cent of the water it collects through leaks.
At recent conferences I have met people from Anglia Water. They told me that their region has less rainfall than anywhere else in the UK, they lose 12 per cent through leaks and they have never had a hose-pipe ban.
I was told that Yorkshire would be the weak link for a national water network. I wasn’t clear whether the problem was Yorkshire Water or Yorkshire’s geography. Given the uncertainties of climate change, it would interesting to know if there is any high level planning for national water supply. Is there any?
