WHEN will the politicians of this country start to take notice of the vast majority of the population when it comes to the treatment of prisoners?
They are in prison because they have committed crimes against society, yet the politicians treat them as if they have been wronged by society.
Time and time again, we hear the bleeding hearts carping that we are going against their human rights because things are not nice and comfortable in the prisons. They are in prison to be punished, yet they are better treated than pensioners, the disabled and young children.
Their comforts should be nil and any sentence passed by the courts should be served in full, never mind reduced sentences because they appear to be good boys to the parole board.
Justice Minister Ken Clarke is living in cloud-cuckoo land if he thinks his proposed suggestions will go down well with the populace and should resign immediately.
What is needed is longer sentences for murderers, drug dealers and serial criminals and make prison so unpleasant that they will not want to go back inside.
