FIREFIGHTERS broke into a smoke-filled flat in Knaresborough to rescue a pensioner.
They were alerted to the fire by a neighbour, who raised the alarm at 6.50pm on Sunday.
Two crews attended the scene and had to force entry to the flat in Fisher Gardens, off Brewerton Street.
They rescued a 68-year-old man, who was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
A fire brigade spokesman said the fire was caused by a pizza left unattended in the oven.
