PLANS to transform a disused building at a North Yorkshire mine into a private gymnasium have been submitted to the council.
Body-Fix Fitness Ltd has requested permission to convert a disused canteen attached to the business park at Riccall Mine on Selby Road to a personal training studio creating four jobs.
The site is owned by UK Coal, and negotiations have been ongoing between the company and Mark Tipping, owner of Body-Fix, which provides personal training to subscribers in Selby, York and Goole, and was formerly based in Barlby.
He said: “The business is already running in Riccall and we do smaller group work, classed as semi-private training.
“At the moment I’m the only one working here, but I have two other guys looking to come over, my wife will cover admin, and I will be interviewing for a third trainer.”
Mark said the two rooms would be transformed into a small gym and training room, and a separate office for admin work, should the plans be agreed.
He said: “There’s a big open plan room which will be for training, and a smaller room which will be an office.
“We do quite high-end stuff, a lot of bio-mechanics and non-conventional training, we don’t just put you on a treadmill or rowing machine.”
Body Fix also offers massage therapy, Boxercise and toning classes, and a “boot camp” experience in areas including Bubwith, Riccall, Fulford and Market Weighton.
Consultations with nearby residents and businesses have already started, and the plans should be decided by the council’s planning committee next February.
