FLOODING caused part of Huntington Road in York to be closed last night.
A six-inch water pipe burst near Bell Farm Avenue at about 5.50pm. The leak caused flooding as the gullies in the road were blocked, causing water to back up.
Police closed Huntington Road for repairs between Byland Avenue and Yearsley Grove, diverting traffic through Byland Avenue, New Lane, Anthea Drive and Yearsley Grove.
A Yorkshire Water spokeswoman said the water supply to people’s houses did not have to be disrupted, but it was possible some properties experienced external flooding. She said the cold weather was the likely reason for the burst.
Yorkshire Water apologised to customers for the inconvenience.
Firefighters have been called out to a record number of burst pipes as the cold snap continues its grip on North Yorkshire.
Over a 24-hour spell between Tuesday and Wednesday North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service attended 22 incidents.
