York Indoor Bowls Club men made it a great weekend in the national competitions as they beat The Parks (North Shields) in the Denny Cup third round.
With the away rinks finished and the game beyond reach The Parks conceded the home rinks against David Stroughair and Paul Mooring’s teams after 18 and 19 ends respectively.
On aggregate York led from the start and once again Paul Humphreys’ and Phil Emmerson’s teams proved how good they are adapting to opponents’ greens.
Humphreys’ team were level at 10-10 after 12 ends before losing three successive ends in which they dropped five shots.
But they didn’t let this get to them as they went into the last end level at 18-18 before unfortunately dropping a single to lose the game.
Emmerson’s rink similarly put up a great fight after going from 10-8 down to 19-8. They won six of the last seven ends yo only lose 21-16.
At home, David Stroughair’s team went 10-0 up after the first three ends. They dropped more than a single only on one end to finish comfortable 29-9 victors.
Paul Mooring’s team dropped six shots over two ends to narrow their lead to 14-12.
But they rallied with a seven on the 14th end to demoralise their rivals en route to winning 26-16 two ends early.
York now play Spalding on Sunday, January 2 with the game starting at noon.
