Clifton ‘A’ scored a rare 6-3 home win over old rivals RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ in ladies division one of the York Badminton League.
Heather Clarke and Karen Anderson did the damage for the home side with three wins.
Institute still lead the division, but the league title may rest on the outcome of the reverse fixture.
Tadcaster sealed their first ladies two win with a 7-2 home result over Selby Jubilee. June Shorter and Alison Ward won three games in straight sets.
University Students ‘A’ made it three wins from three in men’s one with a 6-3 home success over Clifton ‘B’. James Hor and Baillie Watterson were prominent for the campus team taking their allocation.
University Staff kept in the promotion hunt in men’s three after they made it seven wins from eight games with 9-0 victories at Terry’s and Selby Jubilee ‘B’.
Steve Martin and Peter Huang scored straight maximums in both games.
Clifton ‘A’ bounced back in mixed one with a 9-0 demolition of a game St John’s side. George Noble and Karen Anderson were in sparkling form for Clifton.
RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ proved too strong for University Students ‘A’ in mixed one, winning 9-0 with only one rubber going to a deciding leg. Chris Hunt and Kate Jackson enjoyed three straight wins.
Riverside ‘A’ went down 5-4 at home to RI Monday/Wednesday ‘B’. James Pauw and Joyce Petch were the visitors’ match-winners.
RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ had mixed fortunes in mixed two when they lost 7-2 at home to Selby/Drax ‘A’ and then rallied to beat visitors Clifton ‘C’ 6-3 two days later.
Michelle Hall and Scott Anderson were best for Selby/Drax with three wins. The Clifton ‘C’ match saw Caroline Newnham and Gary Routledge take the honours with a three hard-fought wins.
Fulfordgate ‘A’ kept up their unbeaten record in mixed three with a 6-3 home win over Nestlé, who fielded only two pairings.
Highlight of the match was the good form of Zoe Cook and Steve Walker.
Nestlé came back in their next match to record a 5-4 win at University Students ‘C’. Phil Grant and Helen Shepherd were the match-winners.
RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’ lead mixed four after a 6-3 away win over Selby Jubilee ‘B’. Paul Forth and Rachel Simister continued their good form for the Institute with the best visitors’ return.
