LIBERAL Democrat Peer Lord Wallace pleads: “Judge us after five years”.
I was not ever keen on the idea of a coalition Government after the “no winner” General Election, but for the sake of my country, I hoped it would function well.
Well, it has not and I now wonder if it can survive five years.
After just a few weeks, we saw the fiasco with Liberal Democrat David Laws; we have heard deputy leader Simon Hughes saying he was unsure of how he will vote; we have had the broken pledges over tuition fees; we have had to witness the “liberal” Ken Clarke try and introduce soft policies as regards prisoners; we have witnessed Vince Cable suggest he may not even vote for a policy on tuition fees that he largely drew up; and now we hear what Mr Cable thinks about Rupert Murdoch and we realise that the Business Secretary will talk openly to people he does not know about future possible business takeovers and his role within the Government.
