A MAN has been seriously injured in a road accident while walking home between York and Selby.
The 35-year-old, who has not yet been named, was walking with another man along the road just before midnight last night.
The man was near Deighton, walking towards Selby, when he was struck by a grey Land Rover Discovery traveling towards York.
The pedestrian, from Selby, suffered serious injuries to his head and chest, and broken legs in the accident, which happened in a lay-by south of the Happy Haddock Fish Shop.
Traffic Constable Grant Gibson from the Tadcaster Roads Policing Group said: “There are two people I am urging to come forward.
“They are the taxi driver who dropped the men off at the lay-by and a woman who was driving south, past the lay-by, at the time of the collision. I urgently need to speak to both of them as they are vital witnesses to the incident.”
The injured man was taken by ambulance to York Hospital, where he remains in a very poorly but stable condition.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police confirmed the 65-year-old York man driving the Land Rover had not been arrested but had been interviewed.
Anyone who can help with the enquiry is asked to contact PC Gibson on 0845 6060247.
