Sleeve: Winged golden dagger through bleeding heart on black background. Let’s ROCK!
Sleevenotes: No words, just song credits and a lot of pictures of the boys striking rock poses in tight trousers and dark glasses.
Content: 16 tracks including two unreleased “future classics” but more or less in chronological order, starting with the awesome Livin’ On A Prayer.
High point: You Give Love A Bad Name – sleazy rock classic
Low point: Most of the later stuff; strictly for fans who have hung on since 1987.
Any glaring omissions? No. It has the four or five songs you will all recognise plus ten also-rans.
Anything new? Next single What Do You Got? and No Apologies, but same old formula.
Cheerful or tearful excuse for release?: No idea why they chose to release a greatest hits album at this particular point other than a desperate Christmas cash-in. It’s not like they need the money.
Where might this end up at Christmas? Back at HMV, should I find it in my stocking.
