This was the scene that greeted residents and shoppers in York city centre this morning, as the big freeze continued.
An overnight frost left the frozen River Ouse looking like an ice rink.
Photographers have been flocking to the river banks to see the wintry scene, as captured here by The Press's Frank Dwyer.
Police meanwhile have urged people not to dice with death by walking on the ice, following reports of people doing so on frozen lakes and ponds across North Yorkshire.
Dangers of deadly ice
TEENAGERS have been dicing with death by playing on the frozen River Ouse in York city centre.
It may look stunning, but police have reiterated their warnings that frozen lakes and rivers can prove deadly.
Kevin Price, who works at the King’s Arms pub in King’s Staith, said he saw three teenagers sliding across the ice on life rings, clutching cans of lager.
He said: “If they had fallen in they would have been dead within three seconds. It puts not only their lives at risk but also the people who would have tried to save them.”
Police yesterday urged people not to walk on ice, following reports of people putting themselves at risk across North Yorkshire.
