THE Radio 2 team were joined by choristers, live reindeer, and star musicians as presenter Chris Evans brought his breakfast show to York.
Yesterday’s programme was broadcast live from Bishopthorpe Palace, home of Dr John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York.
KT Tunstall and James Dean Bradfield performed live on air from the palace and listeners were treated to interviews with various members of the palace staff, while Moira Stuart read the news live from a Christmas grotto.
A choir of former York Minster choristers sung carols, accompanied by the Archbishop on drums, and there were live reindeer at the palace entrance from Willow House Farm Shop, in Wigginton Road.
Dr Sentamu said afterwards: “This show has been full of energy, full of hope and for me a fantastic gathering. I am very grateful that the BBC were able to come and record the Chris Evans breakfast show from Bishopthorpe Palace. Wow – Christmas starts here!”
Chris Evans said: “It’s been a show full of surprises, some even we didn’t know about! Everyone has had a wonderful day.”
