NORTHERN RAIL has today issued travel advice to customers for Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December.

The north of England train operator will provide a revised timetable on selected routes on both days.

Services will operate from around 9am until 6pm on both days and will cover about 40 per cent of the Northern network.

There will be no Northern services on any other routes and replacement buses will only run on routes where there is already planned engineering work.

The revised timetable is in place because the RMT union has called a strike by Northern conductors who are members of the union - 361 of the 976 employees who were balloted have voted for the action.

The RMT balloted Northern conductors for strike action over Bank Holiday terms and conditions, This strike action does not affect services run by other train companies.

Ian Bevan, Managing Director, Northern, said: "We are running as many services as we can on 27 and 28 December and these are concentrated on routes that are not covered by other operators.

"We regret the action taken by the RMT union but despite the strike we will cover about 40 per cent of our network and expect to carry tens of thousands of passengers over the two days."

Northern Rail will run six trains in each direction between Leeds and York calling at local stations. Trains will depart York at 09.09, 11.09, 12.13, 14.13, 15.08 and 17.08. From Leeds trains will depart at 09.41, 10.41, 12.41, 13.41, 15.41 and 16.41.
