THIEVES stole an elderly woman’s wheelchair from the front garden of a house in Selby.

The chair was taken from Scott Road between 1pm and 6pm on Wednesday, December 22. It is black with grey wheels and has the 78-year-old owner’s name on the underside.

PC Stuart Henderson, of the Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The mindless theft of the wheelchair has caused a great deal of upset and anguish to the victim and her family. It was her only means of getting about and she would have really struggled over the Christmas period had she not been able to borrow another wheelchair.

“I am appealing for any information that could assist the investigation to recover the wheelchair and locate the offender or offenders. The theft occurred in the middle of Wednesday afternoon in the run up to Christmas, so surely somebody can recall seeing someone pushing an empty wheelchair about in Selby or possibly loading one into a vehicle.”
