A pedestrian injured in a late-night collision while walking home along the A19 remains in hospital.

The 35-year-old man from Selby had been under sedation since the crash, which occurred in a lay-by near Deighton, south of the Happy Haddock Fish Shop just before midnight on Wednesday.

As a result of the crash, the man suffered serious head and chest injuries, and a badly damaged knee, and was taken to York Hospital. The man, who has not yet been named by police, was taken off sedatives yesterday, and was able to talk, but he was undergoing an operation.
