MY wife and I live in Hucknall, Nottingham, and four or five times a year come to York to visit relatives.
We like to take the bus to Dunnington for lunch in the pub while we are there.
During the summer, we noticed a number of older men mowing the grass and tending the flowers and assumed that they were completing some sort of “pay-back” work within the community.
We visited this week and saw some of the same group shifting the ice in the main street and when we noticed that they were wearing Dunnington In Bloom reflective jackets, questioned them about the work that they did locally.
It seems that these In Bloom people work all year round, dealing with floral enhancement in summer, but also cutting most of the grass in the village and tending hedges and open spaces.
We thought what a credit these people were to an already beautiful village and we hope that they will sustain their efforts.
If they would like to come to Hucknall, there are a few odd jobs they could do for us.
