A MAN was taken to hospital after being rescued from a flat fire in York. It is believed to have been started deliberately.
Fire crews were called to Lindley Road in the Clifton area of York at 5pm on Monday.
Firefighters wearing breathing equipment rescued the man from a ground floor flat.
He was given oxygen at the scene before being taken to hospital by paramedics, suffering from smoke inhalation and lacerations to his face.
A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the blaze was believed to have been caused by the deliberate ignition of a sofa.
The flat suffered fire damage to the lounge and smoke damage to a further four rooms.
