THE brother of a teenage car-crash victim has run a Christmas Day marathon in his memory to raise funds for a hospice which serves North Yorkshire children.
Dean Tempest’s 16-year-old brother Michael died along with two of his friends in the tragedy near Wetherby in December 2006.
And Dean paid tribute to his brother by running from Wetherby to Boroughbridge and back on Saturday, with the proceeds going to Martin House Children’s Hospice, at Boston Spa, near Wetherby.
He said: “Christmas is just a different time of year for us now, so I wanted to do something different. It changes everything. I don’t think Michael would have wanted us moping around, so I wanted to get out and do something good.”
Michael, Oliver Cross and Thomas Dunn were killed in the crash on the A58 four years ago, with the driver of the car, 17-year-old James Trotman, suffering serious injuries, but surviving. A 2008 inquest recorded a verdict of accidental death.
