A MAN was due to appear before York Magistrates today following a fire at a house in Clifton Moor, York.
Police confirmed a 43-year-old man has been charged with arson after firefighters were called to a blaze in the lounge of a property in Lindley Road at 5pm on Monday.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said at the time it was believed the arm of a sofa in the property had been set alight.
Firefighters wearing breathing equipment rescued a 43-year-old man from the ground floor flat and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
He was conscious throughout, but had suffered smoke inhalation and cuts to his face and was given oxygen at the scene.
The fire damaged the lounge and caused smoke damage to a further four rooms.
