Fulford ‘B’ took advantage of a free week for Bootham ‘A’ to take the lead position in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League by thrashing Heworth ‘B’ 6-1.
The winning team comprised Bob Smith, John Adcock, who held off a 22 break from Brian Birch, Arthur Pegden (27 break), Andy Hurley, Jim Rollinson and Tom Wilson. Tim Hart (25 break) replied for Heworth.
Heworth ‘A’ went level on points with the leaders despite losing 4-3 to Fulford ‘A’.
Justin Morris and Luke Fleet gave Fulford a solid start before Jason Milner pulled a game back.
Mark Robson made it 3-1 only for Neil Wood (46 break) to keep Heworth in the match. Terry Ward (33, 24 breaks) sealed the win, but Clive Whyte (31 break) earned what may be a critical point in the last game.
Acomb ‘A’ made it a double as they cruised to a 6-1 win over their ‘B’ team.
Their winners were Gary Robinson (20 break), Richard Lillie, Jeff Keen, Keith Thornhill, Phil Carlton and Adrian Barraclough. Brian Henry was the ‘B’ team’s sole victor.
Malton ‘A’ went 2-0 ahead through Dominic Spiteri and Richard Williamson, who benefited from Ian Robinson’s failed attempt at a snooker on the final blue with a simple pink waiting.
Simon Weatherill (42 break) made it 3-0 before Bootham achieved their first point with an easy win from Matt Smith.
Chris Dawson clawed back to make it a black-ball game but his optimistic clip along the top cushion left Dave Pawson an easy pot.
Phil Hart’s easy win made it 5-1 but Lionel Barnes reduced the arrears in the final game as Malton recorded their first triumph in six matches.
Bootham ‘A’ have dropped to third, one point adrift but with a match in hand. Acomb ‘A’, also with a match in hand, are fifth, only six points off the leaders.
Richie Lillie has joined Tim Fillingham to lead the Willsden Steel player of the year contest with seven wins in eight games.
Meanwhile, Kevan Gall’s 64 keeps him in front in the contest for the Pasema Paving highest break.
