FESTIVE-SPIRITED residents of a street in Wigginton who annually decorate their homes with hundreds of lights for charity are hoping for a final boost in donations.

Chris Archer and her partner, Ken, are two of the householders of Twin Pike Way hoping to collect £5,000 in donations by the time they switch their display off on Sunday.

However, the freezing temperatures and snow this month have left them needing another £800.

Miss Archer said: “Our last night of being lit up is Sunday, so I think we should make it. In the first weeks we hardly had any visitors, and then the snow came. We had a few who braved the snow but it wasn’t many. But since the thaw people have started coming.”

Miss Archer, 62, and several other residents of the street have organised the annual spectacle for the past ten years.

This year, donations from visitors will be handed to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, St Leonard’s Hospice and the Heart of York Appeal.

“We might get some help next year because we are getting too old to be climbing ladders,” she said. “If anybody can help us then get in touch nearer the time.”

She also thanked everyone who had been to the display this year and left money in the collection tin.
