A HAT-TRICK of wins have cemented New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club’s superb start to the Yorkshire Over-55s League campaign.

An 88-59 success against Harrogate maintained their 100 per cent start to the division two season, earning them 15 points.

At home, Bob Edwards’ team were always in control as they led from start to finish in an 18-13 triumph.

Barry Johnson’s side were left chasing three shots on the last end to snatch a draw, but they dropped a two to go down 20-15.

Away from Huntington Road, Barry Harrison’s four had a 12-11 lead with six ends to play and won 27-11.

Ralph Tiplady’s rink led 11-10 after 13 ends before scoring two threes and a six to win 28-15 and virtually seal the match.

Meanwhile, York ‘B’ took six points from a 77-62 defeat by second-placed Scarborough.

The two York home teams won, led by Ron Kirkpatrick’s rink, who trailed 9-7 after 11 ends but claimed all the remaining ends in a 15-11 victory.

Tony Thornton’s team also did well, winning three of the last four ends to progress from 10-10 to a 15-11 triumph.

York’s away rinks struggled early on and were made to pay for their poor starts.

Bob Blackburn’s side were 16-2 down after seven ends and lost 29-14, while Ken Robinson’s side were 12-3 down after eight ends and lost 25-14.

In division one, York suffered a second successive defeat when they lost 91-70 to title holders Featherstone.

The only winning rink came from Geoff Walker’s team, who came back from 11-6 down after nine ends.

They led 29-13 going into the last end, where they dropped a three.

Fred Clayden’s side led 11-8, but a dropped six and then two singles proved crucial as they went down 20-16.

Away, it was tough going for the York side as Malcolm Harrison’s team lost 28-14 and Graham Brooke’s outfit went down 27-11.
