HAIR and beauty students from York College showcased their creations at an event at York racecourse last night.
The annual York College Hair and Beauty competition was held in the racecourse’s Knavesmire Stand and involved about 250 full and part-time hairdressing and beauty therapy students. It also attracted local employers, with some acting as judges.
The competition included the following categories: catwalk, face and body painting, nail art, ladies’ evening style, first year blow dry, ladies’ progressive, school links, Level 3 skills challenge and a total look team event, based on the theme of ‘A night at the theatre’.
There was also a demonstration by ‘Salon 54’, of Thirsk and Easingwold.
Denise Morrison, head of division for hair, beauty and holistic therapies at York College, said: “This annual event provides a superb learning experience for the Hair and Beauty students at York College. “Each year they rise to the challenge and prove to themselves, and to employers, that they can use their skills effectively whilst under pressure.
“It is fantastic to see their training at college, and in the workplace, result in technical and creative skills which are showcased in this competition.” The winning students go forward to a regional heat in Gateshead and the winners from the regional heat compete in the national finals to be held in Blackpool in March.
