A VINTAGE steamroller has been put to good use to help repair a North Yorkshire road.
Farmer Philip Raley, 43, from Stillingfleet, has been using his 80-year-old steamroller to carry out pothole repairs in a three-quarter mile track near his farm after the ravages of the winter weather.
Dad-of-two Philip, said: “This particular steamroller was made in the 1920s specifically to flatten asphalt on the new roads that were being built at the time.
“It was quite enjoyable to do it the old way. It took us a long day but it was worth it. It’s not recognisable from how it was.
“Given the state of some of the roads and the amount of complaints I have seen from drivers about potholes, the council might want to ring us to help. They should borrow it.”
