STRUGGLING Acomb Hockey Club men’s I suffered their sixth defeat in ten games as they lost 3-2 to Leeds University IV in Yorkshire League division three.

The Tangerines started sluggishly and the scholars took full advantage with two early deflected goals.

The hosts conceded another open play goal before starting to claw their way back through Nick Linfoot’s fierce drive from a narrow angle, which soared into the net.

After the break, Acomb were kept in the contest by two fine saves from Craig Brown.

The visitors went down to ten men twice, with the same player being dismissed for two different infringements, but Acomb were thwarted by the ’keeper.

Dave Bell and Chris Stoneman went close before Matt Dickenson’s penalty corner follow-up netted with the final play of the game.

Acomb II had a free weekend as scheduled opponents Wakefield have dropped out of division seven north.
