Where did you meet?
Ian and I were childhood sweethearts and have known each other since we were teenagers.
Where did he propose?
On Martha’s Vineyard in America while on holiday. I was a little surprised as we had been together over 10 years. He even asked my father’s permission?
The dress
My dress was a Maggie Sottero which I found at Elizabeth of York, an amazing shop that stocks lots of beautiful dresses by various designers. It felt perfect when I put it on. I wore a veil, blue garter (for my something blue with a little gold horseshoe stitched to it) and I had a white silk lucky horseshoe round my wrist after we were married. I wore my grandmother’s beautiful pearls, cream satin peep-toe shoes and some underwear by Jasper Conran.
He wore
A black suit with white shirt and cream cravat. The best man and ushers wore similar but their cravats matched the bridesmaids’ dresses.
Bridesmaids
I had three bridesmaids and two flower girls. They wore champagne-coloured dresses with a chiffon overlay. They were from Debenham, as were their bags.
Flowers
Flowers were supplied by Twigs florist in Barwick-in-Elmet. The theme was traditional English country wedding with creams, light and dusky pinks, including traditional English roses, ribbons, pearls and hearts.
Transport
My mum arranged for a surprise horse and carriage. Ever since I was young I’ve absolutely loved horses and the day was made even more magical to be taken to the church in a traditional carriage and then to be taken round Rudding Park grounds with my new husband before the guests arrived.
Reception
The reception was at Rudding Park (voted the UK’s No.1 hotel at the 2010 Trip Advisors Traveller’s Choice Awards). It’s a beautiful setting, fantastic food and friendly helpful staff. The top table was a horse-shoe shape and sat myself and my husband, our parents, our best man and his wife, my maid-of-honour and her partner. We had 100 guests during the day, with another 50 in the evening.
Entertainment
We had a string quartet followed by a DJ.
Honeymoon
We went to the South of France for four days after the wedding then a while later we went to Zimbabwe and Mozambique on a tropical beach holiday and safari.
