THIS Belfield chair, which once sat in one of the York Minster chapels, has been rediscovered in an attic.
The wooden regimental chair is dedicated to the memory of a former army colonel, Herbert Eversley Belfield, who served from 1876 to 1919.
Rebecca Thompson, superintendent of works at the Minster Stoneyard, discovered it in the attic at the stoneyard when redecorating.
Apprentice joiner Michael Wharram has been helping to maintain the chair, which will now have pride of place in the stoneyard’s reception area.
Rebecca said: “The chair is much better than anything you can buy.
“The Belfield chair is a part of history.”
