A Bulgarian lorry driver has been banned from driving and fined after pleading guilty to causing a serious collision in Barlby, which closed the A19 for six hours.
Emil Atahacob Stoyanov, aged 50, was charged with driving without due care and attention following a collision between his Spanish-registered Scania lorry and a blue Fiat Scudo van on Tuesday. Stoyanov appeared before Selby Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where he was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £230. The court also ordered him to pay £85 in prosecution costs.
The driver of the Fiat, a 64-year-old man from Leeds, suffered serious injuries in the collision, and was airlifted to York District Hospital, where he remains in a comfortable and stable condition.
