A 29-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the murder of a York father named yesterday as Mark John Webb.
Mr Webb, 40, a father of young children, was stabbed at a house in Stuart Road, Acomb, on Friday. He made his way to nearby Middleton Road, but died later in hospital. He had children at a local primary school and lived in Cornlands Road, but local people were yesterday reluctant to talk about his death.
The 29-year-old man was due to appear at York Magistrates Court this morning. A 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were last night released on police bail.
Earlier in the day, a 26-year-old woman was released without charge. A 49-year-old woman was released on conditional bail.
Parts of Middleton Road remained cordoned off yesterday as police inquiries continued, and there was a mobile police van on Stuart Road. Forensic investigators also carried out a detailed examination.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the stabbing was an “isolated incident” and urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could help the investigation.
He said: “There was no risk to other members of the public.” One Middleton Road resident yesterday said the first he had heard of the death was when he saw The Press yesterday. Another said Mr Webb had children at school with one of her relative’s children, but did not want to say any more.
One worker at The Acomb pub said Mr Webb was a regular customer and “known by all”.
A 999 call was made at 4.15pm on Friday and officers descended on Stuart Road and Middleton Road.
They found Mr Webb still alive and arranged for him to be taken to York Hospital, with a police escort.
Anyone who was in the area of Kingsway West, Gale Lane, Middleton Road and Stuart Road on Friday afternoon, or who may have information useful to police, is asked to contact them urgently.
