YORK Central MP Hugh Bayley has joined in centenary celebrations for International Women’s Day with staff at the offices of City of York Council for Voluntary Service (CVS).
The Labour MP said the day celebrated the achievements of the women’s movement, but also reminded people that the struggle was not over.
He said: “There are now more women in the workplace than at any time in the past and the Equality Act brought in by the Labour Government in 2006 has done much to promote gender equality.”
He thanked the CVS for the consistent support it had given to women’s equality over many decades.
