THE royal wedding will be shown on a big screen at a party in York.
The Lord Mayor Sue Galloway is hosting the £20 ticketed event, including champagne and canapés, on April 29 at the Manor House with proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation and Our Celebration.
She said: “We are asking people to dress as though they are going to a wedding. It will be a good chance for residents to come and sit in my front room and we can all have a jolly good time.” Tickets are available from the Guildhall.
Other events include a two-day street party in Little Stonegate from April 8. The event, organised by Mulberry Hall and Kennedy’s Bar and Restaurant, also promises an appearance from Eric Knowles, the royal expert from the Antiques Roadshow. Meanwhile, City of York Council has received ten inquiries about holding street parties and formal applications for Westminster Road, Ramsey Avenue in Bishopthorpe and Upper Kerver Lane in Dunnington.
Copmanthorpe village is holding a street fair on May 2, from noon to 4pm, at Low Green.
To hold a street party contact the highways network management. Applications for road closures should be made by April 4. For details, visit york.gov.uk
