TRADERS around York, North and East Yorkshire are being inspired by the royal wedding to create some eye-catching window displays.

Imaginative Icing, which sells cake-making items from stores in York and Scarborough, has created a royal wedding-themed cake for the window of its shop in Lendal.

The creator of the cake, Anthony Springall, said the job had been “very fiddly” and had taken a lot of patience.

“It’s a royal wedding street party,” he said. “It took a few weeks to create because I had to do it a bit at a time. We just fitted it in around our usual routine.”

In Malton, Karin Landhal, of WP Horsley Florists, has knitted figures representing the royal family for their display. Surrounded by flowers and bunting, the scene shows the knitted figures standing on a balcony.

Karin saw the knitting pattern in a newspaper. She mentioned it to the owner of the shop, Gareth Horsley, and she then spent about a month knitting the figures between work and other commitments
