THE United Nations’ stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace.

Of the 192 members, the majority struggle to meet the above described aims, in particular human rights. There are disputes within several Middle East and African countries at present and in the past, all of whom are members of the United Nations.

It is ironic that these countries are declaring their disgust at the way armies deal with those who are protesting against regimes ruling with an iron hand for many years, when their own country is incurring similar situations.

The Syrian ambassador had his invitation to the royal wedding withdrawn because of the brutal behaviour of the Syrian army against protestors. What about his contemporaries?
