ON EASTER Sunday, I tried to travel by First bus to Bishopthorpe from York, but after waiting until well past departure time at the York Station, I gave up and walked the four miles.

All the timetables for service 11 displayed on the bus stops confirmed the service should be running. I later walked back to Askham Bar, having waited in vain for service 13A from Tadcaster Road. At least the Park&Ride buses were running, so I was able to travel by bus for part of my way home.

I later learned three FirstBus services had been withdrawn that day, although only passengers who had recently travelled on their buses would have read the announcements.

I tried to phone First to complain, but the number I was advised to ring cut me off twice. I tried again and was given yet another number, but this had only an answering machine.

Not being able to get anywhere with discussing my complaints about these arbitrary cancellations, I thought that perhaps raising the matter through the Letters page might at least alert potential passengers that roadside timetables might not necessarily be accurate.
