LEWIS YOUNG broke a club record when scoring ten tries for New Earswick All Blacks ARLC under-9s against Doncaster Toll Bar.

Young was unsurprisingly named man of the match after his record 40-point haul in the end-to-end game, and he also took the ‘magic moment’ award for a length-of-the-field effort.

Other tries came from girl-of-the-game Ellena Powell, Joshua Walton (2), and top tackler Taylor McDonough, while Magnus Fielding was the ‘rising star’.

New Earswick U15s returned to winning ways with a 32-20 home victory over Criggleston All Blacks in Yorkshire League division two.

The White Rose Avenue side’s try scorers were Adam Wilson, James Cox, Tinache Chinyemba, Jake Beaumont and man of the match Callum Graham (2).

Beaumont kicked four conversions for New Earswick, who had a player sent off in the second half.

York Acorn U15s came agonisingly close to toppling league champions Stanley Rangers in a thrilling Yorkshire Junior League Challenge Cup final.

The Blue and Golds eyed a late winner at Featherstone Rovers’ Big Fellas Stadium but their last attack came to nothing and they lost 22-20 after a ding-dong encounter.

Acorn paid for not taking advantage of early pressure as Stanley scored with their first foray, after 15 minutes.

Ash Robson then jinked over, only to have the effort disallowed, and, to add insult to injury, Stanley scored two quick tries.

The introduction of Liam Lowson lifted Acorn and he was instrumental in their scoring just before half-time, Harry Bromwich darting over. Acorn had all the early pressure in the second half and they scored when Lowson weaved in. Robson’s conversion attempt hit a post.

Josh Potter fed Josh Thompson to side-step the full-back for an excellent try, Robson putting Acorn ahead with the extras. However, they let the kick-off bounce into touch and Stanley took advantage to score a try, soon bagging another, plus the goal.

Acorn fought back for Tom Gurden to crash over, Robson goaling, but they could not find a winner.

Richard Ashton and Gurden were the pick of the forwards, with Lowson and Potter outstanding in the backs.

Heworth U15s suffered another narrow defeat when losing 28-22 at Drighlington in a night fixture.

Heworth trailed early on but captain Dave Larkin brought them back into the game with a try, and hooker Jack Rowson scooted in for another, Larkin’s two goals making it 12-12.

Drig replied to lead 18-12 at half-time and they then made it 22-12.

Full-back Ross Hunter, the man of the match, pulled off a succession of one-on-one tackles and, with his side inspired, Larkin scored another six-pointer before Adam Lovett equalised with a solo try. However, the hosts got the winner with four minutes to go.

Harry Radcliffe bagged a hat-trick as Heworth U13s, trailing 14-12 at half-time, stormed back to beat Upton 34-18. Other Villagers tries came from Arran Naismith, Aaron Varndell (2), with goals added by Louis Brown (4) and captain Jacob Sunderland.

Heworth U9s suffered their first loss of the season against Knottingley.

Jak Ostergaard was man of the match and try scorer Luke Prenty won ‘magic moment’. Jensen Brown, Austin Cole, Charlie Harrison and top tackler Kian Oliver also crossed.
