YORK Cubs roared to lift the York FA Acaster Steel Under-11s Cup.
They showed plenty of mettle to counter an opener from opponents Brooklyn in an entertaining final at Poppleton Juniors’ ground.
Brooklyn’s Josh Berry took off on a run down the left wing before cutting in and hitting a cute finish beyond goalkeeper Henry Fern.
But the Cubs refused to cower. After Brooklyn ’keeper Josh Ellis denied Alex Cowes, they levelled when Robbie Brown scored after a goalmouth melée.
Just before half-time Cameron Burdass’ lob gave Cubs the lead.
Ellis was again in defiant form in the second half but with five minutes left he was beaten for a third time, Marcus Deighton pouncing to score for the Cubs, who were presented with the trophy by Mrs Purdy on behalf of the sponsors.
