York Schoolboys Under-12s came agonisingly close to claiming the point they needed to take the title race into a last-day decider before losing 4-3 at Spen Valley, conceding the winner with virtually the last kick of the match.
York created the better first-half chances and led 2-1 at the break via two Sam Fielding set-pieces, the first a penalty.
The game twisted in the second period, Spen hitting two quick goals to lead 3-2.
York went all out for an equaliser and, with three minutes of stoppage time played, George Brown outpaced the home defence to level with a neat finish.
But with seconds left, York yielded a free-kick from which a cross-cum shot beat ’keeper Liam Powell.
Three days later York completed their league term at home to Sheffield needing an unlikely seven-goal victory margin.
George Brown put them ahead and Sam Fielding and Alex Wilson came close before Sheffield replied with three unanswered goals.
