EAST Riding of Yorkshire Council sent out letters to parents of 3,050 children who have secured a place in their first-choice primary school.
The figure represents 95.1 per cent of applications, with 97.4 per cent (3,123 applicants) getting one of their three preferences.
The local authority said it received its highest rate of applications since 2003, reflecting an eight per cent rise in the number of births in the East Yorkshire in 2006/07 compared with 2005/06.
However, 83 applicants did not get a place at any of their preferred schools.
More than 400 applications were received for children transferring from infant to junior schools, all of which got their first choice.
Applicants that did not get any of their preferences will be put on a waiting list.
