TWO bus services in an East Coast town are facing the axe from a concessionary fares scheme.
North Yorkshire County Council; has launched a public consultation over proposals to end free bus travel for pensioners and disabled people on the Scarborough seafront routes, with the aim of saving at least £240,000.
The authority has been left with a financial headache because of its requirement by the Government to take over the running of bus passes, with the services which may be affected running from the Sea Life Centre to the town centre and from North Bay to the Spa.
The consultation will run until July 26.
Janet Deacon, Scarborough’s representative on tourism body Welcome To Yorkshire, said: “We hope this will not impact on visitor numbers, as there will still be concessionary fares for people to get to the resort.”
