PACESETTERS David Lloyd 2 laid down an early marker with a 59-49 victory over title rivals Harlow in division six of the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League.
David Lloyd fielded three captains as Andy Holmes and Rob Williams won 25 and 26 games respectively, partnering Ian MacAulay and Ben Horton, to take the tie for regular captain Chris Johnson. Brothers Matt and Dan Poole were unbeaten as they helped Wilberfoss 2 to a 62-46 win at Dunnington 3.
There was calamity for Cliffe’s Ollie Brooke and Callum Hancox, who scored an unbeaten 26 games at Poppleton 3 only for their team-mates to muster only 17 more games in a disappointing 43-65 defeat. Pop 3 captain Tony Hart won 26 games with Brian Graystone. There is an early three-way tie at the top of division seven as the opening day victors all won again this week. Tim and James Hunt lifted Stamford Bridge 2 to a narrow 58-50 win at Wigginton 3. Tim scored 22 games with Lewis Neave, a tally only bettered by his son, James, on 23 with Robin Bedford.
Wigginton’s Chris Burnham and Scott Farquhar claimed 24 games. Wigginton 4 lost their inaugural match 69-39 to Bishopthorpe 2. York 4 joined the table-top party by trouncing Selby 79-29. Stu Langley and Jack Bass scored as many as the entire Selby team.
New boys Starbeck 3 won 73-35 at home to Pocklington 2, who could only muster two pairs.
