CHARITIES across York can take part in a new project which is aimed at raising money for small community groups.
Pot Luck is a project which invited members of the public to a special meal, at which local charity groups are given three minutes to make a presentation to the crowd.
Once all the pitches have been heard, the audience vote on which of the local charities should receive the money raised by the meal, expected to be about £1,000.
Charlie Mitchell is a director of Creating Space For You, the new social enterprise behind the event, which will be held at the Priory Street Centre, and said the idea was already popular to raise money for arts groups in the US.
She said: “Pot Luck is an innovative, but simple, idea that aims to raise cash for small community groups. This is a unique networking opportunity where you can meet new people, find out what community projects are going on locally, and get to vote for the project that you think deserves the cash.”
The meal will be held on Friday, with food created by York Unifying Multicultural Initiative (YUMI).
The Pot Luck team will offer advice to organisations on how to sell themselves in three minutes, and provide technical support for PowerPoint or keynote presentations.
Tickets to the meal cost £15 per person, and community groups and charities can apply to take part by emailing charlie@creatingspace4u.net or by phoning 07870 498886.
