THE St Leonard’s Hospice Challenge Walk on April 30 competed with the royal wedding and a glut of bank holidays, but still managed to attract more than 100 people, who set out from Haworth and followed the 20-mile circular route.
The weather was bright and sunny, but the going was hampered by the strong wind. Everyone remained cheerful, though, and finished in good spirits.
St Leonard’s is grateful to all walkers, and although it will be some time before we have this year’s total, we know it will be another impressive sum.
This was the 21st Challenge Walk, which over the years has raised more than £200,000 to support caring for local people with life-threatening illness.
Our volunteers were wonderful, as usual. We are very grateful to Nestlé for providing much-appreciated chocolate, to Mike Thorpe Windows for supplying drinks and biscuits along the route, and Badger Hill Bakery for the fantastic pies which awaited walkers at the end of the walk.
Now we are looking forward to the Midnight Walk on June 18, details of which can be found at stleonardshospice.org.uk or by phoning the fundraising office on 01904 777777.
