THE professor behind controversial plans to move child heart surgery services out of our region faced angry parents at a meeting in Leeds.

Hundreds of people turned up to the forum, many of them parents of children who had undergone surgery, for a first chance to quiz those behind the NHS’s controversial Safe and Sustainable Review.

Facing the public at Saviles Hall yesterday was one of the architects of the scheme, Professor Roger Boyle, national director for Heart Disease And Stroke, who said children would get better care if we “accept the need for change.”

The review could see services moved from Leeds General Infirmary to Newcastle.
