York RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ endured a hard time at St John before scraping through 5-4 in York Badminton League ladies one.
Natalie Jones and Nikki Hainsworth were the students’ best pairing with three wins, their top result an 18-21, 21-10, 21-9 success over the opening Institute pair of Sandra Pauw and Anne Stephenson.
Riverside suffered two defeats in men’s one, losing 7-2 at home to York RI Monday/ Wednesday ‘A’ and 9-0 at in-form Clifton ‘A’.
Mark Harris and Ollie Cohen were best for the Institute with three wins for a total of 144-97, including a 18-21, 21-18, 21-17 over Craig Dobson and Alex Fowler, who took both home wins.
George Noble and Erik Wagenaars recorded three straight wins for Clifton.
Clifton ‘B’ were good value for a 6-3 win at over RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’ in men’s one.
Kevin Davison and England veteran’s team member Denis Cleary put together another superb series which brought them three straight wins.
Clifton ‘C’ made it an excellent week for the resurgent club with a 5-4 home win over Shepherds in men’s two. James Pearson and Roger Martin were in tremendous form for the visitors with three wins.
RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’ registered a 5-4 win at Tadcaster 86 in men’s two.
Ian Sinker and Brian Morley made the difference for the visitors with three wins, including a 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 triumph over Mark Hanson and Ben Stables.
Fulfordgate had mixed fortunes in men’s three when an 8-1 home win over Selby Jubilee ‘B’ was followed by a 5-4 defeat at Copmanthorpe.
Fulfordgate’s Steve Walker and Mat Hobman took maximums in both matches.
