A COMMUNITY project, organised by the Prince’s Trust, will start next week in York.

The course will take place at the York Environment Centre, in Rawdon Avenue.

The former dumping-tip turned nature reserve will host the scheme, which will involve 12 young people from a variety of different backgrounds.

The 16 to 18-year-olds will become involved with the natural world over the course of the week, which will focus on community and conservation.

Community work and awareness is an important aspect of the team’s ongoing 12-week course of personal development, which will eventually lead to a City & Guilds qualification.

Activities will include bench building, planking, digging and bramble clearing, and it is hoped that, upon completion, these will have a positive impact upon the environment and local community.

With two members of staff and five volunteers involved, the project is looking for a variety of contributions from the public, with bench tops and fixings, bird-box materials, loppers and general equipment being sought.

Phone 07841153056 if you can help the project in any way.
