A COUPLE who met as teenagers on a blind date in the 1940s are celebrating 60 years of marriage.
Rosemary and Frederick Clayden, both 79, from Acomb, met at a cinema in Tadcaster in January 1947.
Rose was 15 and Fred was 14. The pair fell in love, and decided to marry four years later at Tadcaster register office.
The couple moved to York after their wedding and had three children, Linda, Shirley and David.
After a spell in the RAF, Fred went on to work in Rowntree’s for 46 years, rising from working as an office boy to becoming chief time-keeper.
The active pair enjoy a number of hobbies – Rose is a keen gardener and painter and Fred is a member of a bowls club.
Fred said: “The reason we have enjoyed 60 years of loving, happy marriage is through loving, caring and sharing.”
They have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
