PEOPLE with coeliac disease can get a taste of some of the latest foods available to them at the York Gluten-Free Food Fair on Saturday.
The event was set up in 2003 as a way for coeliacs to meet food manufacturers and discuss new products.
Organisers say it has tripled in size since it was founded and the latest event will see 25 major food producers at the Bar Convent in Blossom Street, along with a number of local companies.
Adrian Benson, one of the organisers, said: “Each year our success grows, more people attend and enjoy being able to speak to manufacturers and try the goods they offer giving them the opportunity to try before they buy.
“The exhibitors enjoy the feedback from their potential customers.”
The café in the Bar Convent will again be opening its doors with a gluten free menu so visitors can dine out without a worry. Coeliac disease causes the body’s immune system to react adversely to the gluten found in food About one per cent people in the UK have the condition but it is believed just over 12 per cent have been diagnosed.
