THE pie’s the limit at a stately home near York next week.

A huge Georgian Kit Kat Pie will take centre stage at Beninbrough Hall on Wednesday as part of the National Trust property’s Festival Of Pies.

The hall will be hosting a special pie-themed three- course menu which will include a selection of different pies for each course.

One of the courses will include the Georgian Kit Kat pie, which is a historic pie dish based on an 18th century recipe from the Kit-Kat Club. The dish consists of minced lamb sweetened with redcurrant jelly, currants, red wine and topped with a water crust pastry.

The Kit-Kat Club was set up by Christopher Katt, a pastry chef who created the recipe for the famous pie. He would serve it to the members of the club and when they all got together.

As part of the event, in the Georgian dining room, visitors will be able to see Katt brought to life in Georgian costume with his huge Kit Kat pie.

Other pies on the menu include north country fish pie, fidget pie, steak and local ale pie, chicken and mushroom pie, spinach ricotta and onion pie and a mini selection of sweet pies for dessert.

Booking is essential and costs £25. For more information, phone 01904 472027.
