THE York Club and Institute side ended a four-year drought by beating a York Amateur Bowling Association representative side in their annual challenge match.
The curtain-raiser ended 119.5-107 in the CIU’s favour despite a 15-shot defeat for the CIU president Terry Wheatley and his rink.
That reverse was more than compensated for by comprehensive wins on two of the other rinks.
YABA president Billy Brookes presented the trophy to a jubilant CIU team, which was captained by Wheatley.
Meanwhile, Burton Lane and South Bank are the only two sides with a 100 per cent record after two games of the York CIU Evening League.
South Bank beat Tramways 8-0 and Acomb 6-2, while Burton Lane toppled Huntington 6-2 and Poppleton Road 8-0.
